Two-Faced Biren

Two-faced Biren Singh: "We Will Protect Indigenous Tribes at all cost!" "Who Indigenous? We are all Indigenous!" "Indigenous Tribes Land rights do not exist!"

Biren Singh also questioned the "indigenousness" of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) who called an 8-hour shutdown and said "What indigenous people? We (Meiteis) are indigenous people. Nagas are indigenous people. Kukis are indigenous people. What indigenous tribal?"

The same has been parroted by Meitei mobs perpetrating pogroms on the Kukis, their homes, properties, churches, as is heard in the video where a church is being burned.

Manipur tribal groups slam CM Biren's remarks on land. Nongthombam Biren Singh had allegedly said 'land belongs to Mother Nature and not to any particular community.' June 13, 2022 03:12 pm

Five organisations, including Tangkhul Naga Long, the apex body of the Tangkhul community, reminded the Chief Minister that the identity of the tribal people had a "sacred" connection with their land, the only legacy passed down by their forefathers.

"We are indigenous to our land and thus, the sole owners of our land. The British, having understood this right from the early days, created laws to honour the tribals' relationship with their land. This birth right must be respected," the organisations said in a statement issued on June 12.

Manipur CM assures  protection of indigenous communities: March 6, 2023

Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh, on Saturday said that the government will protect and work for the upliftment of all indigenous communities in the state.
"The government is here to protect all indigenous communities of the state and that no community (e.g. Meitei) should discriminate against, or threaten, smaller communities (e.g. Kuki) for forceful assimilation."

BJP will not go against beliefs of indigenous people: N Biren Singh

ET: Manipur was the epicentre of agitation against CAB. Do you think it will be an election issue?

N Biren Singh: We have assured that the government will protect the indigenous people of Manipur at any cost. We passed the Manipur People's Protection Bill, 2018, for the same purpose. CAB can do harm to the indigenous people but BJP's northeast in-charge Ram Madhavji has fully assured that the culture, tradition and indigenousness of the people will be fully protected.

ET: Are people getting alienated from the BJP over CAB?

N Biren Singh: I do not think so. Following protests in Manipur and other northeastern states, the bill was not introduced in the Rajya Sabha. It has virtually lapsed. Hence, the question of alienation of the people from the BJP does not arise.

ET: CAB talks about giving citizenship to non-Muslim migrants. Aren't ILP bill and CAB opposed to each other?

N Biren Singh: It is open to interpretation. Even as the BJP introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha, it was shelved at a later stage. The BJP will not do any thing that will go against the beliefs of indigenous people of Manipur.

"Biren Singh wants to 'Homogenize Manipur.'"
Buren Singh seeks "Oneness of Manipur," by which is obviously meant the assimilation of the Naga and the Kuki-Zomi-Mizos tribes into Meitei society! A program of "Oneness of Manipur" is, by nature, radically incompatible with a program of "Peaceful coexistence of different ethnic groups."
